Steve Sandalis, owner of Mystic Water Gardens, designs natural-looking lakes, streams and waterfalls in Southern California. His projects range from $8,000 to $400,000. Sandalis also has a loyal following as a cover model for more than 700 Topaz Romance books.
"You watch the show and think it's an exaggeration, but it's not," Sandalis says. In fact, he says, he'd consider many of his clients "desperate housewives."

Mr. Sandalis, 36, has parlayed his camera-friendly looks with the skills he learned from his contractor father to become the Contractor/Inspector in The Undetectables, which premiered March 8 on The Discovery Channel.
